Webulant offers technology support services for a
variety of industries, with a specialty in supporting
the technology needs of the healthcare industry.
Our Internet expertise enables us to maximize Web
technology in medical imaging, specifically its
application in picture archiving and communication
systems (PACS) and teleradiology.
Early PACS designs
attempted to reproduce the workflow of a
film-based hospital practice and focused primarily on
automating parts of the process. It was only later that
the ever increasing amount of image data forced the
issue of digitization,
which in turn led to the idea of using networked
computers
(mainframes) to store and access information.
After struggling for the
past 20 years, plagued by hurdles of
digital standards and measurable ROI, today the PACS
adoption
curve is rapidly accelerating. 2001 and 2002 were banner
years
for sales and installations of PACS, with most of the
major
vendors reporting record increases.
PACS has radically
reduced or eliminated film costs, storage
space, and retrieval time. However intangibles benefits
including the use of PACS as a transformational step in
healthcare workflow cannot be understated.
A fundamental shift has
occurred in using information
management as the core driver and facilitator of
diagnostic
imaging management. PACS have also been behind some of
great gains in productivity achieved by physicians,
technologists, and radiologists.
Over time, the vision of
PACS moved from its historical roots
in radiology to a broader concept of the digital
healthcare
facility. Physicians can now have ready access to
patient
images, medical records and referral opinions from their
desktop or PDA’s, with standards that have been further
reinforced by the government initiatives; namely HIPAA
and
patient quality initiatives from Leapfrog1. Finally, as
price /
performance ratios increase, many outpatient clinics and
imaging centers can now compete with some of the largest
hospitals by offering patients the latest quality
radiology care
available.

Network Support
Agreements
Webulant offers network
support agreements for clients nation-wide and offers
on-site network maintenance services to our clients in the Metro Atlanta
and Miami-Dade/Broward County areas. Typically,
our clients contract with Webulant for a set number of
hours per month for the ongoing support of both their
company network and desktop support. Having a set
number of hours per month enables our clients to more
easily budget network maintenance and enables Webulant
to more accurately project revenue, a factor which makes
it worth it to us to lower our hourly rates for those
clients that elect to use a set number of hours per
month.
